Industry Advocacy Award: Shannon Durrant, Anne Street Partners

A passion for advocacy saw Shannon Durrant take out Money Management and Super Review’s Industry Advocacy Award.

The head of compliance, risk and advice at Anne Street Partners was a judge’s favourite at this year’s Women in Financial Services Awards.

They showered praise on her for being a solid contributor, and commended her skills in compliance, training and setting up standards for operational procedures.

Durrant has financial services running through her blood, as her mother used to work as a financial planner for AMP.

She is passionate about using her 16 years’ experience in financial services to develop compliance and governance strategies for organisations.

She started working at Anne Street Partners in January this year as their head of compliance, risk and advice, and tackled their compliance issues head on as they remain under the regulator’s surveillance.

“One of the reasons that I took the role was because I’m so passionate about quality of life and compliance and helping the industry to become a profession,” she said.

She has been providing training and corporate governance to the advisers, and this area of work makes her most proud.

It has been a challenging year for her as she implements compliance and best practice through the organisation but she is reaping rewards.

“A lot of our financial advisers go to a best practice audit rating, which to me says it all.”

Durrant is eager to see her industry become a profession, and believes good corporate governance and compliance is vital to achieve this goal.

Durrant’s educational qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Applied Finance, majoring in financial planning, and she has almost finished her MBA.

Other finalists include regional director, Australia, of Hedge Fund Association Adriana Kostov, co-founder of Wealth Enhancer Sarah Riegelhuth, and founder and managing director of Elixir Consulting Sue Viskovic.
